Purchasing a New System
If you are in the market to purchase a new system, please consider the following suggestions:
Although the pricing structure for new computers remains constant, the performance capabilities increase
substantially from year to year. This year's "low-end bargain" computer may be last year's top performer.
- Buy as much performance as you can comfortably afford at the time of the
purchase as upgrading a computer after the fact is more expensive.
- Remember that a faster processor and more RAM will yield better
performance and may defer the need to upgrade.
- Buy computer systems only from well-established vendors with good
reputations for service after the sale. Customer support should be a major
factor in the decision of where to buy your new computer.
- Regardless of the size of your practice,
buying a server is probably the most important hardware decision you will make. Performance,
redundancy, and capacity planning are important considerations when purchasing the right
server solution for your practice, so be sure to discuss
them with your hardware vendor.
